Started as The Department of Computing and Mathematics in the year 1996 offering General National Vocational Qualification (GNVQ), and in the Academic Years 2001-2003 it was offering Oman National Diploma (OND) programme.
The current IT program was implemented since the Academic Year 2003-2004, offering graduate programs in Diploma in Information Technology, and Advanced Diploma & Bachelor in various specializations like Networking, Database, Software Engineering, and Internet and e-Security. After its implementation, the program was continuously reviewed and updated whenever necessary.
Based on the market needs, as per the inputs from the employers, a major change was incorporated in the IT program. The new version 3 of the program is implemented since September 2016 (Academic Year 2016-17), offering graduate programs in Diploma (Software Development, and Networking specializations) and Bachelor (Information Security, Networking, Software Engineering, and Database Systems specialization).
In line with the College Vision and Mission, the department aims to produce graduates with high quality technical skills in the field of Information Technology who can contribute to the Socio-economic development of the Sultanate of Oman. The Teaching and Learning environment in the department emphasizes on Student-Centered learning, thereby fostering an academic atmosphere for the students to be "responsible for their own learning and innovate their knowledge".
